Small Business Snapshots: Celebrating Stories That Matter
Or, Candid Goes Live: Where Vision Meets Authenticity
When we think of small businesses, we often think of local shops, handcrafted goods, or the friend who's turned their passion into a thriving side hustle.
But small businesses are so much more than that.
Categorized as companies with less than 50 employees—from this point forward in my mind—small businesses are the heartbeat of our communities, the dreamers who dare to create, and the visionaries who redefine possibility.
This is why Small Business Snapshots (SBS Live) was born.
Launched in September 2024, it started as a grassroots initiative, “Small Business Saturday (SBS) Live,” to amplify the voices of entrepreneurs, creatives, and changemakers in my community or who happened to find one of my posts promoting the concept.
What began as a live segment has grown into an intentional conversation where authenticity reigns, and community thrives.
The Heart Behind the Movement
Every small business has a story worth sharing. Behind every product or service is someone who took a leap of faith, often overcoming challenges to bring their vision to life. SBS Live exists to spotlight these stories—to celebrate the wins, share the lessons learned, and connect these dreamers with a supportive audience.
Don’t just take my word for it. Watch any of the interviews I’ve hosted myself on our YouTube channel, connect with each founder, and give me time to drop the others.
That’s not the only thing I’ll be sharing on that channel. Stay tuned.
The common thread, outside of noticing most guests forget to tell us exactly what they need, is no matter the conversation, everyone has this heart for helping people and educating their audience, and you can hear the joy in their voices as they explain what they’ve chosen to pursue.
Not to mention, most people are multi-hyphenates or sit at intersections like a full-time employee and business owner; a student, dancer, model, and marketing professional; a bladesmith and a fashion designer who has been highlighted at NYFW; and that’s just the first three people I posted!
What I love the most is the simple format I created for the interview:
Who are you?
What do you do?
What do you need from us? Or, how can we support you right now?
Except I don’t really ask.
I tell them that I’m giving them the floor, outline the agenda, and keep those questions in the back of my mind to ensure every single thing is answered.
Then, we just let the conversation flow. Okay, that may be my favorite part.
Maybe I should have a talk show…
What Makes SBS Live Special
SBS Live isn’t just a platform; it’s a community. These lives offer a chance for:
Inspiration: Real stories from business owners navigating the highs and lows of entrepreneurship.
Connection: A space where business owners and creatives can find like-minded individuals who understand their journey.
Visibility: A chance for small businesses to be seen, supported, and celebrated by a wider audience.
Recent guests even tune into other conversations to find their next collaboration and support, while the audience asks questions to gain clarity in their own ventures because, with Small Business Snapshots, gatekeeping doesn’t exist!
Whether you’re an entrepreneur sharing your story or someone tuning in for inspiration, we believe you’re a part of something bigger and want to see you win.
The Power of Community
As Kingdom Unplugged grows, I want to continue to create initiatives that can take a life of their own and close the gaps in our communities so equity, not equality, will thrive. Small Business Snapshots is more than a 2024 initiative—it’s a testament to what’s possible when we come together to support each other.
Whether you’re a small business owner, a creative, a content creator, or simply someone who believes in the power of dreams, I pray this inspires you to break outta the box and do that thing that’s been pressing on your heart.
Together, we can amplify a multitude of voices, brands, and purposes and create a ripple effect of inspiration, connection, and growth.
